Original materials development

Original material ingredients are indispensable
to establish a lead on our competitors in cosmetics development.

Value added or novelty in cosmetics is controlled by ingredients in formulation.
MISHO can not only get novel materials due to business relationship over many years with plant-derived material makers but develop our own original materials in-house.
We assist you with your cosmetics development and manufacturing through our great stock of knowledge and novel ideas about ingredients.
We propose products which can be differentiated and competitive through our commercialization experience of various kinds of products and a great stock of knowhow acquired in prototyping and development.

"Supercritical fluid extraction method"

Conventional extract extraction method

Conventional extract extraction method is to extract an extract by immersing a natural product in water or alcohol, etc.
Extracts of most of the common natural products have already been extracted and sold as general-purpose materials on the market.

So, it is difficult to produce novel materials which can be differentiated with conventional extract extraction method.

Extract extraction method using supercritical CO2

Special extraction method to extract natural products extracts by using supercritical CO2 instead of water or alcohol.

Supercritical CO2

Supercritical CO2 is none of solid, liquid, gas at a high temperature and pressure. If we had to say, we would say it has properties of both liquid and gas.

Supercritical CO2

Characteristics of extract extraction method using supercritical CO2

Ingredients in the extract extracted by this method are different from those extracted by the conventional method using water or alcohol.

Characteristics of extract extraction method using supercritical CO2

Comparing the ingredients extracted using supercritical CO2 with the general-purpose extracts sold on the market extracted using water or alcohol, since the ingredients are different, they are expected to have the characteristics as follows:

They have totally different effects/efficacies.

The same effects/efficacies are remarkably increased.

Even the general-purpose extracts extracted from the same natural products by the conventional method exist, we will be able to develop original materials which can be differentiated.

Supercritical CO2 extract

Extract from amber mined in Kuji
(Labelled Name: Amber extract)

  • In minuscule quantities, decreases melanin, which causes skin blotches, and increases collagen, which keeps skin firm!!

Adding just 0.001% extract from amber mined in Kuji to the cells, we have found melanin which causes skin blotches to be decreased to about 27% and collagen, which keeps skin firm to be increased to about 140%,

  • Whitening effect equal to arbutin

Melanin degreasing effect of extract from amber mined in Kuji using supercritical CO2 was equal to arbutin, which was a notable whitening substance.
Extract from amber mined in Kuji using supercritical CO2 is more easy to be absorbed by the skin and so seems to reach melanin-producing cells in the skin more easily than arbutin.

We can have the same degree of effects at the same concentrations.

  • Unique mechanism of whitening action

The mechanism of whitening action of the extract from amber mined in Kuji using supercritical CO2 seems to be different from other various whitening materials.
We are now conducting research on the detailed mechanism of whitening action of the extract from amber mined in Kuji using supercritical CO2.

Extract from rice bran using supercritical CO2
(Labelled Name: Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract)

  • Melanin which caused blotched decreased to about 16%.

We cultured cells which produced melanin (melanin-producing cells), added extract from rice bran using supercritical CO2, and found the melanin which caused blotched decreased to about 16%. This result shows it has a remarkably outstanding whitening effect among various whitening substances.

  • The whitening effect which surpasses extract from rice bran listed in the Japanese Standards of Quasi-drug Ingredients (JSQI)

The extract from rice bran listed in JSQI sold on the market, which is extracted by using water and/or glycols, is used as material for cosmetics and quasi drugs and stated that it has a whitening effect.
It has become clear that the whitening effect of the extract we extracted from rice bran using supercritical CO2 remarkably surpasses extract from rice bran listed in JSQI.

  • Reason for strong whitening effect

Rice bran includes γ-oryzanol, which has a whitening effect.
We have analyzed both extracts and found that the extract from rice bran using supercritical CO2 included much more γ-oryzanol than extract from rice bran listed in JSQI and so has strong whitening effect.

Extract from pearl barley using supercritical CO2
(Labelled Name: Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen Seed Extract)

  • Melanin which caused blotched decreased to about 20%.

We cultured cells which produced melanin (melanin-producing cells), added extract from pearl barley using supercritical CO2, and found the melanin which caused blotched decreased to about 20%. This result shows the extract is an outstanding whitening substance.

  • The whitening effect which surpasses extract from pearl barley on the market

The extract from pearl barley on the market, which is extracted by using water and/or liquid like ethanol or their mixed liquid, is used as material for cosmetics and quasi drugs and stated that it has a whitening effect.
It has become clear that the whitening effect of the extract we extracted from pearl barley using supercritical CO2 remarkably surpasses extract from pearl barley on the market.

Extract from perilla seed using supercritical CO2
(Labelled Name:Perilla Frutescens Seed Extract)

  • Melanin which causes skin blotches decreases by more than 96%!!

When the same stimulus as blotched skin received is given to the cells which produce melanin (melanin-producing cells), the melanin production, which causes skin blotches, increases.
But, when extract from perilla seed using supercritical CO2 is given to the cells together with the stimulus, the melanin production hardly increases.
In other words, the cells almost return to the condition in which the stimulus is not given. It can be referred to as the skin with no blotches.
While substances which have such a strong effect often cause damage to the cells, extract from perilla seed using supercritical CO2 did not cause any damage to the cells.
So, it is considered friendly to the skin as well.
